• Merry + Bright: Spruce Collective in Chatelaine Magazine!

Last Winter, Janis Nicolay stopped by the shop to photograph a festive dining table we styled for the Holidays and we couldn't be more excited to see it featured in the December issue of Chatelaine magazine! We used several of our vintage rental pieces (mantle, table, benches and chair) and mixed in some of our favourite nautical art, handmade ornaments, fresh greenery (bouquets created by Kari Dueck of Confetti Floral Design) and plenty of gold and brass bits for added sparkle. We're of the opinion that less is more when it comes to decorating for Christmas...use what you have and layer in fresh evergreens, ornaments, candles and seasonal fruit for a festive touch. Here are a few more of Janis' pics in addition to what you'll see in Chatelaine...

Jessica fashioned these adorable message-in-a-bottle place cards out of clear glass ornaments, string and a small cork stopper, all from the local craft store. Simple bunting flags add a playful touch to Confetti Floral Design's gorgeous evergreen arrangement...it smelled so good! We used mismatched vintage china and glassware for the place settings and a simple linen runner instead of placemats.

No need to get too fussy with handmade bits either. For these nautical orbs, we bought clear glass ornaments from the local craft store and filled them with bits of cording and rosemary sprigs before dipping them in gold craft paint. You could easily add feathers, seashells, tinsel or other mementos for your own personal touch. Bonus: they are a cheap and thoughtful gift idea too!

Simple strands of rope "garland" on the mantle add to the loose nautical theme as do the hits of navy, brass and striped ticking on the upholstered chair. While we all love Christmas (I mean, who doesn't?), we also love styling spaces that can transition easily from one season to the next and don't scream Ho-Ho-Ho...not that there's anything wrong with that ;) We're off to the Chamber of Commerce gala tonight where we'll find out if we've won the New Business of the Year award, exciting! It's such an honour to even be nominated in our first year of business and it's always fun to get gussied up for a night out together. Wish us luck!
